When you assemble the elements that will ultimately make up your restaurant brand, understand that they need to work together - not against each other. It's like assembling a stylish outfit for you to wear. Would you wear old sneakers with expensive nylons, a leather skirt, bikini top, a canvas purse with a silk bow in your hair while wearing purple lipstick with a rubber snake necklace? Using clipart elements to build your brand is the same thing. You need to make sure the elements are executed in a similar style: graphic, contemporary, traditional, organic, sketchy, cartoony, fun, warm, elegant, energetic, bold, delicate. If you prefer to hand make your Christmas cards instead, without using software, you just print out the pictures you want from your selection of Royalty free Christmas clipart graphic images in your computer file, and then cut out the pictures you want to use. Glue them to the card stock you want, add a greeting and you are all done. While colleges have the budget to have a professional graphics department oversee the licensed used of their mascot to ensure it's consistency and integrity, high schools do not, and typically rely on generation after generation of student volunteer artists to create art for t-shirts, banners, the yearbook and other school projects. The problem is the lack of consistency. If you had 100 artists draw a panther, they'd all look completely different - each with their own style; and inconsistency is the single biggest factor in deteriorating a brand. The Pillsbury Doughboy doesn't look a lot different now than he did 50 years ago, and for good reason.
Don't have an art student draw it for you. Just because someone is artistically inclined doesn't make them a good cartoonist, and it doesn't mean they understand the production aspects required of a brand mascot to make it functional across all marketing venues. Sometimes the pieces of clipart come already installed on your computer, but usually those designs are not the best or the brightest. Nothing wrong with them, except they are not inspired designs and everybody and his brother has exactly the same ones. Think of everywhere clipart can be used in your restaurant: menu, cups, napkins, table toppers, newspaper ads, flyers, coupons, television commercials, door hangers, signage, window clings, temporary tattoos, coloring books, doggie bags, flags, banners, receipts, letterheads, business cards, refrigerator magnets, postcards and much more. Each and every one of these is an opportunity to build your brand and consistency is the key. The clipart elements you choose should have a consistent look so they reinforce each other and the brand you're building. Your friend usually doesn't take advantage of you. If he did, you'd probably drop-kick his game console during the night or something (he might be your roommate, after all). That at least keeps him on his toes-or the edge of his rolling office seat-but he still lets your work slide behind the other work. He comes in first, his customers second, and you, his friend, come in third. You might think that free clipart is a cop-out. If you have the graphic design friend, after all, he can probably get you some pretty sweet free graphics (or design them at least for cheap). We're here to say, though, that your friend-wonderful, potato-chip-consuming guy that he is-does not prevent you from using free clipart as a viable design tool.

It is about copying / cutting the pre-existing images. Yes, these images are already mostly in the books that have made their entry into the public domain for that purpose. The easiest method for colorizing clipart is to use the fill tool. On most graphic editing programs, the fill tool is symbolized by a bucket. Simply click on the clipart you want to colorize, and fill with the color of your choice. This method does work, but may not always yield desired results. If your graphics program offers a magnetic lasso tool, that may be a better option. Make sure there are no gaps or any open sides. Kids will love eating on their own plates with their own handmade placemats. These also make sweet homemade gifts from the kids to other family members.
