In addition to the asthetics, you'll want to consider the format the art is provided in. Raster, or pixelized images do not give as good of quality in print projects as vector, or eps images. If you want to change the colors to match your school colors, and if the images are going to appear large (on a banner or sign), be sure to look for vector eps images. You will need some type of vector based illustration program to change the colors. Coreldraw and Illustrator are the two most commonly used programs. If you don't have one of these programs, check with the Web site provider of the clipart. In many cases, they are glad to make color modifications on your behalf for a modest fee. Both image formats can produce excellent stamps; however simple images are always best in .eps and .wmf format to allow you to easily manipulate line thickness in the event the lines are too thin. Two popular graphics editing programs are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Either of these programs allow for the modification of clipart. But no matter which graphics program you use, it should be relatively easy to colorize black and white clipart.
Before you purchase or use royalty-free clipart you should know the two main types of formats. Clipart can come in a vector format and a raster format. "Wikimedia Commons is a media file repository making available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content (images, sound and video clips) to everyone, in their own language. It acts as a common repository for the various projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, but you do not need to belong to one of those projects to use media hosted here. The repository is created and maintained not by paid archivists, but by volunteers." Any entrepreneur worth their salt knows that image is a crucial part of doing business. No one has confidence in a shabbily put together presentation or a messy, disorganised office. You might as well tell your customers outright that you're incompetent rather than waste your time trying to win them over. The type of clipart that I use is important for all of the different effects that I'm creating. It needs to be a vector drawing for sure, as non-vector drawings are bitmaps that don't resize nicely... they'll just get all bumpy and not look good. Also, I'm drawn to simply line art because if it's too complex sometimes it doesn't look as good in the different sizes. It's also good if it's a single color, usually black, because then I can change it to whatever I want quite easily just using simple graphics software. Just remember, simple is better, is cleaner, and usually creates a more sophisicated look.
